حكمت المحكمة العليا الأميركية لصالح مسلمة أقامت دعوى تشكو فيها من التمييز بعد أن حرمت من وظيفة بشركة لبيع الملابس في أوكلاهوما لأنها ترتدي الحجاب. وحكم 8 قضاة مقابل قاض واحد، الاثنين، لصالح سامانثا العوف، التي رفضت شركة "آبركرومبي آند فيتش" توظيفها، على أساس أن ارتداءها الحجاب يخالف "سياسة المظهر" بين عاملي المبيعات لديها. ويعد الحكم انتصارا للجنة الأميركية لتكافؤ فرص العمل، وهي الوكالة الاتحادية التي أقامت الدعوى ضد الشركة، نيابة عن العوف. وقالت سامانثا العوف في بيان لها أصدرته اللجنة الأميركية لتكافؤ فرص العمل "كان يجب ألا تحول معتقداتي دون حصولي على الوظيفة. أنا سعيدة لأني دافعت عن حقوقي ولأن اللجنة الأميركية لتكافؤ فرص العمل كانت معي ونقلت شكواي للمحاكم". المصدر:  Sky News Arabia

(CNN)Baby, it's over. The city of Paris will start removing padlocks from the Pont des Arts on Monday, effectively ending the tourist tradition of attaching "love locks" to the historic bridge. Visitors have been attaching locks with sentimental messages to the pedestrian walkway since 2008 in symbolic acts of affection. Some people further seal the deal by throwing keys into the Seine River below. The bridge carries more than 700,000 locks with an estimated combined weight roughly the same as 20 elephants standing on a bridge designed for pedestrian traffic. Considered charming at first, the thrill wore off as sections of fencing on the Pont des Arts crumbled under the locks' weight. The phenomenon spread to other bridges, creating two major concerns for the city: "degradation of property heritage and a risk to the safety of visitors, Parisians and tourists," the Paris City Council said on its website. "The ruble has stabilised and strengthened," Putin said during his annual phone-in with Russians. "Experts believe that we have passed the peak of the problems." Putin also insisted that western sanctions would not affect Russia the way they've affected Iran. "Sanctions make an impact, contribute to our troubles, but [are] not the main thing," Putin said,  according to  NBC News. "Russia is not Iran. Our country is bigger, our economy is bigger and more diversified, we have a different energy policy."
